Thanks for breaking out the review of Konqueror by web browser and file manager. It seems to get mixed together frequently and keeping them separate really gives users a chance to evaluate it as two programs. Personally, I use it as a file manager only.

You commented that Opera download manager is annoying when it flips you to the tab each time. The first time it opens you can pick from the View drop down to either make the tab appear in the background or not open at all. Changing this setting is one of the first things I do.

As another Arch Linux user (like XVampreX), I can confirm what they say. Everything feels much more responsive. (although its not for the Linux newbie though...Be sure to read the install guide and wiki before starting. Also, do a little planning before installing, as it makes life ALOT easier!)

I'm not sure what the Ubuntu/Kubuntu folks do to their distro, but its like a bloated cow incomparison to distros like Arch. (Based on my experience with Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu 6.06 and 6.10)

When you try it (after trying Kubuntu), it feels like someone took out the speed limiter on your PC!

@ XvampreX

i haven't cracked open openSuse yet, but frankly from the KDE envrionments i have used (Fedora for instance) they all seem incomplete. Maybe i'll give Arch a try and see how it goes.

you can use kwrite as an editor in Kontact, its a Kmail preference (I believe Kmail is embedded in Kontact, if not disregard this).

Nice article
.I also am annoyed at Koffice, I mean, I'd love to use it for its integration... but I just can't...OpenOffice is always better....

Part 3 Konqueror, as web browser, Cons:
"It also fails in terms of download management."
Try installing KGet and running it in system tray. It will automatically handle Konqueror downloads if you choose to. No more separated windows à la IE.

You use kubuntu, what do you expect, it to be lightning fast? non-buggy? Sorry mate, this is kubuntu, it's good for newbies, but this doesn't represent KDE or Linux.
I'm using Arch Linux and it's fast (You konqueror was slow to start? Here it starts in less than a second, by the way, make sure you preload an instance), stable (More stable than Kubuntu, for sure) and cutting edge (I can enjoy the features that you can't, faster).
